Members who move away but want to retain their membership

If a member moves from the Co-op and gives up their tenancy they may apply to remain a member and a prospective tenant if:

  • There is a possibility they may return within two years.
  • They were not asked to leave Co-op
  • They are not in rent arrears which they failed to rectify.
  • They have participated in the Co-op (i.e. attended meetings or did work in lieu as agreed by the Co-op).

The member should make a request in writing to Membership when they put in their notice. Membership will make a recommendation to the MC.

(see Rule 09. ‘a member may be accepted as a prospective tenant’.)

The period of ‘prospective tenancy’ will be set at up to two years. If the member has not returned by that time, they will become an ex-member, with rights under the Ex-members Policy.

Members who are prospective tenants should supply the Co-op with a postal address and e-mail, so that they can receive minutes and keep in touch with the Co-op like other members.

They are encouraged to participate in whatever ways their circumstances allow.

When an Allocation is announced, these members may apply equally with all other members.
