We have a range of dwellings of different sizes, from single person flats, to family units and large shared houses. We are a diverse group reflecting our locality and our city, with members across three generations. We also employ one paid Co-ordinator to take care of day to day administrative, maintenance and management tasks.

What is a housing co-op?

A housing co-operative is a group of people who manage and control the housing in which they live. Each person is a member of the housing co-operative and has an equal say in decision-making. No member individually owns or makes profit at the expense of another. All members are expected to take an active role in providing and managing our housing, and the level of rent which we pay reflects the cost of managing the housing.

Vine Co-op was created as an Industrial and Provident Society and is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority. It is a social housing provider, and is registered with the Regulator of Social Housing.

Vine is a fully mutual co-operative housing association, which means that all tenants (or prospective tenants) of the housing co-operative are members of it. Members pay rent and service fees, but individually do not hold any equity in the co-op’s properties. No member of the housing co-operative has a financial interest in the co-op beyond a nominal shareholding of £1. The Co-op structure is thus ‘limited liability by guarantee’ and individual members of the housing co-operative are not responsible for the co-op’s finances.
